Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed throws punch

It was a tough night for the Washington Redskins, who suffered a setback in their bid to return to the play-offs.
After making it into the post-season places at the weekend, courtesy of other results, the Redskins dropped down to the eighth seed and out of contention after losing 26-15 to the Carolina Panthers on Monday night.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins failed to throw for a touchdown and registered the only interception of the game, at the end of the first quarter when his pass downfield, intended for Vernon Davis, was picked off by safety Kurt Coleman.
His job became harder when, with the Redskins down by two touchdown scores, tight end Jordan Reed was sent to the locker room for punching Coleman at the end of a play.
Replays showed Reed holding onto Coleman's jersey, and when the defender tried to break Reed's grip by force, the punch was thrown.
Reed had struggled to make his mark on the game prior to his ejection, having made just one catch for a gain of six yards. The fourth year player has been struggling with a shoulder injury, and estimated before the game that he only had 30 per cent of his usual range of motion.
Frustration tolled, and the Redskins failed to make a comeback, losing their wild card play-off spot to the Green Bay Packers. Washington now have the Chicago Bears and New York Giants before the season ends on January 1.
