Washington Redskins are one of the oldest teams in American Football and they have the heritage to prove it.

Washington Redskins

  • Established: 1932
  • Stadium: FedExField, Landover, Maryland
  • Team colours: Burgundy, gold, white
  • Head coach: Jay Gruden
  • Super Bowl Championships: 5 (2 pre-merger)
  • Conference Championships: 5
  • Division Championships: 14 (6 pre-merger)
  • Play-offs appearances: 24 (6 pre-merger)

They were one of the most successful teams in the NFL before it merged with the AFL in 1970 and have recorded over 600 wins in the league - you can count on one hand how many teams have managed that feat.

The Skins play in one of the biggest stadiums in the NFL. FedExField has a capacity of 82,000.

The first five years of their life in the NFL were spent as the Boston Braves, but the franchise relocated to the nation's capital in 1937 and enjoyed immediate success in winning the championship game against the Chicago Bears at Wrigley Field.

Another championship victory five years later would prove to be their last for four decades until the famous Joe Gibbs era. In his first stint in D.C., Gibbs was responsible for the most successful decade in the franchise's history.

He led them to three Super Bowl titles in 1982, 1987 and 1991, but the most remarkable aspect of that success was that he achieved it with three different quarterbacks.
