Larry Fitzgerald has signed a new one-year contract extension with the Arizona Cardinals.
The wide receiver was scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season and his new deal makes it more likely he will end his career as a member of the only NFL franchise he has ever represented.
Fitzgerald, 35, is one of the leading receivers in NFL history and heads into week 11 of his 14th season needing 141 more catches to pass Tony Gonzalez for second on the all-time list behind the legendary Jerry Rice.
His new deal does not guarantee Fitzgerald will continue playing next season - he has previously contemplated retirement - but it does mean he will continue to play for the Cardinals if he carries on.
But Fitzgerald is showing no obvious signs of slowing down as he is tied for the NFL lead this season with 60 receptions - they have gone for 677 yards and three touchdowns despite some inconsistent quarterback play.
He could also surpass Randy Moss for third on the all-time receiving yards list by the end of the season, needing only another 227 yards to catch him, while second-placed Terrell Owens is 869 yards ahead.
Fitzgerald was drafted third by the Cardinals in the 2004 NFL Draft and has since passed 1,000 yards receiving in a season on eight occasions, including the past two seasons.
