The Philadelphia Eagles' star second-year quarterback Carson Wentz's season is over after suffering an ACL injury during their 43-35 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Wentz exited the contest late in third quarter after getting hurt attempting a touchdown dive that was ultimately called back for a penalty.

The 24-year-old stayed in the game to throw a three-yard touchdown to Alshon Jeffery four plays later - his 33rd TD pass, setting the team's single-season record.

Shortly after though, he was helped to the locker room, with Nick Foles replacing Wentz under centre for the remainder of the game.

Head coach Doug Pederson announced on Monday that Wentz will miss the rest of the Eagles' regular and post-season games.
