But, speaking at the Opening Night at the Xcel Center, Brady - who has previously said he still wants to be playing when he is 45 - suggested his future at the Patriots is not guaranteed.

"Well, I never want to be a detriment to the team," Brady said.

"So I think for me, as long as I'm playing at a high level and I make the commitment to take care of myself year-round, I'll continue to play.

"So I don't know, things change quickly. Anything can happen, but obviously I want to keep playing. I love playing. I just love playing for the Patriots."

Brady maintains a strict health and nutrition routine as chronicled in the manual he authored and sold by bound volume last year.

But as the Patriots secured another AFC East title, reports hinted at a growing rift between head coach Bill Belichick, Brady and owner Robert Kraft.

Kraft said on Monday that he plans to fight to keep the core of the team together as long as possible.

"My job," Kraft said, "is to try to keep it together as long as possible."

Brady, a five-time Super Bowl champion and four-time MVP of the Super Bowl, is signed through 2019 at a salary of $14m for 2018 and 2019.
