New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has said that reports claiming he was going to be traded are fake.
Multiple sources on Friday stated New England coach Bill Belichick wanted to trade Gronkowski and offers were in place from the Tennessee Titans and the San Francisco 49ers.
However, a team spokesman later denied these claims, stating that "none of them are true".
Speaking to CBS Boston, Gronkowski said: "It just shows how much fake news is out there. Hashtag fake news that's all I know. It exists. See it all the time about me. It's wild."
It was also suggested the Patriots' star quarterback Tom Brady had threatened to retire if the reported deal for the tight end to move out of Foxborough went through, which was also denied by the team's spokesman.
He and Brady have built an undeniable partnership in the eight years they have worked together in Massachusetts.
Gronkowski registered 1,084 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games for the Patriots last season but they fell short of winning the Super Bowl, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles.
