Washington Redskins sign ex-Saints pass rusher Junior Galette

The Washington Redskins upgraded their pass rush on Friday by signing troubled former New Orleans Saints linebacker Junior Galette.
The 27-year-old, who recorded 22 sacks over the past two seasons, was released by the Saints last week after the revelation of multiple off-field incidents, even though it cost the team $17m in cap space over the next two seasons to do so.
The Redskins signed linebacker Galette to a one-year deal for the league minimum for a fourth-year player, which is $745,000, and he is grateful for the opportunity.
“First off, I’m thankful to be here and just grateful to have this opportunity,” Galette said Friday in his first comments as a member of the Redskins.
“I’m just blessed and grateful to be a ‘Skin. I just want to move forward and not worry about the past, but what’s ahead of me.
“Obviously I’ve made some mistakes. We all make mistakes, but it’s what you do after that and I’m ready to learn from them and be part of this organization that’s ready [and] that’s taken me in as family.”
Elsewhere, Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland was suspended by the NFL for one game that is related to his citation last summer for marijuana possession.
Breeland will miss the Redskins' season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 13 but is eligible to participate in all off-season and pre-season practices and games.
The second-year player, who is coming off an impressive rookie campaign, was carted off the field during Friday’s training camp practice after suffering an apparent right knee injury.
Breeland suffered the injury during a 1-on-1 drill against the wide receivers. As he back peddled and planted his right foot to quickly change directions, it appeared his right knee buckled.
