All the latest news from the Rio Olympics, including Adam Peaty's world record in the pool, while GB's boxers and women's hockey team impressed on the opening day.
No medals yet for Great Britain but it is fair to say that the squad have made a promising start and some of the athletes we saw on Saturday could well end up on the podium.
Foremost is Adam Peaty, who is a red-hot favourite for gold in the 100m breaststroke after a pair of incredible displays on Saturday.
The 21-year-old broke his own world record in his heat and then swam the second-fastest time ever in his semi later on, just 0.07 seconds slower.
He will go for gold at around 2.45am on Sunday night/Monday morning.
Sadly Hannah Miley could not quite make the top-three in the 400m individual medley, finishing fourth after being overtaken in the closing stages.
James Guy was sixth in the men's 400m freestyle but led for much of the way and could be a real threat for a medal in the 200m.
There were world records on the night from the amazing Katinka Hosszu, who dominated her rivals in Miley's race, and the Australia 4 x 100m women's relay team.
The hockey tournament did not start very well for Great Britain as the men's team were handed a 4-1 thrashing by Belgium.
However, Saturday night brought a superb result for the women's team, Alex Danson getting the winner as they conquered Australia 2-1.
And there was success for Team GB in the boxing ring on the opening day, Joe Cordina and Lawrence Okolie emulating Galal Yafai by getting off to winning starts.
Andy Murray has not even stepped on court yet but GB have had some tennis joy, Kyle Edmund and Heather Watson winning their opening singles, before Watson teamed up with Johanna Konta to advance in the doubles.
If you missed the men's road race on Saturday evening, an eventful few hours ended with Greg Van Avermaet of Belgium powering to gold.
GB's Geraint Thomas was 11th, crashing on the final descent when still in with a chance of a medal.
Spare a thought for French gymnast Samir Ait Said who suffered a shocking leg break during his competition in the vault
The 26-year-old's left leg folded beneath him after an awkward land in the men's qualification event. US gymnast and 2012 champion Danell Leyva said: "I heard other gymnasts say 'don't look, don't look'."
