Leigh's hopes of playing in Super League next season took a serious blow as they crashed to a shock 34-12 defeat at bottom side Halifax in the Super 8s Qualifiers.
Halifax won for the first time in the competition with Steve Tyrer scoring 18 points with a try and seven goals.
The Centurions, who topped the Kingstone Press Championship at the end of the regular season, never recovered after conceding a breakaway try to Dane Manning after eight minutes.
Ross Divorty and James Saltonstall added further tries to give Halifax a 20-0 lead at half-time to stun the visitors.
After the interval Leigh produced a brief rally during which Adam Higson and Fuifui Moimoi both crossed the line.
However, Scott Murrell killed off any chance of a fightback and Tyrer secured victory when he pounced in the corner.
