Super League Grand Final classics: Billy Whizz and captain fantastic

Jason Robinson celebrates after Wigan's Grand Final win over Leeds in 1998

Tom Mordey continues to look back at his favourite Grand Final moments, including the last Old Trafford between Wigan and Leeds in 1998.

10. Fairytale ending - 2003

Brian Noble's side completed a famous treble in 2003 after a pulsating 25-12 victory over Wigan at Old Trafford.

The Bulls were 19-12 up, late in the game, with Wigan looking for a try to perhaps spark a remarkable comeback victory. But it was left to one of Bradford's retiring heroes to seal the victory.

James Lowes had called time on his rugby league career and the 80 minutes in Manchester were to be his last in a Bradford shirt. So when the Bulls worked the ball close to the line late on, the stage was set for one final dummy half burrow.

And sure enough, the script writers did their job. Lowes powered over, putting the icing on a sweet victory and finishing his career in the perfect way.

Kevin Sinfield has dragged the Leeds Rhinos by the scruff of their necks through many big matches, but never before has he done so on such a major stage as the 2012 Grand Final.

Leeds sealed their sixth title by ruining Warrington's their first Old Trafford appearance, and they had their skipper to thank for the 26-18 victory.

Despite being the target of some heavy Warrington defence and being knocked out in the second half, Sinfield still produced a man-of-the-match display. He even scored a try of his own in 14-point haul, getting on the end of one of his own high kicks after Carl Ablett offloaded to him in the corner.

Sinfield's kicking was also sublime, knocking over five from five, extending his record in the play-offs that season to 21 from 21. And he was at the heart of some brilliant Leeds moves as the Rhinos secured a wonderful victory to once again win Super League from fifth position in the regular season.

8. Comeback Kings - 2013

Warrington would return to Old Trafford a year later, but this time it was Wigan that stood in the way. Shaun Wane's side were on the brink of a league and cup double, but Tony Smith and the Wolves were desperate for a first Super League crown.

Before half-time it looked like the Wolves' wait was over. They led 16-2 thanks to tries from Joel Monaghan, Simon Grix and Ben Westwood, but Monaghan was stretchered off late in the half and the momentum swung Wigan's way.

Darrell Goulding finished off a move to reduce the deficit before the break and after half-time Michael McIlorum crashed over from dummy half to ramp up the pressure.

Warrington cracked. Inspired by man-of-the-match Blake Green, Wigan were soon over again to take the lead through Josh Charnley. And then tries from Green himself and Pat Richards sealed the win.

Wigan ran out 30-16 winners, but they had to produce a record-breaking comeback to win their third Super League crown.

7. 32 years of hurt - 2004

Danny McGuire crosses for the winning try for Leeds in the 2004 Grand Final against Bradford

Tony Smith's first year in charge of Leeds saw the Rhinos dominate the competition, but it was arch rivals Bradford who stood between them and a first league win in 32 years.

What an occasion it proved to be at Old Trafford as the two sides and their fans flooded down the M62 to witness a tense thriller.

Leeds had a marginal 10-8 lead going into the final five minutes thanks to a Matt Diskin try and the boot of Kevin Sinfield. But they had their top try scorer Danny McGuire to thank for another piece of opportunism that finally killed off the Bulls' resistance.

With the clock ticking down, Robbie Paul dropped the ball in a threatening position. Leeds worked the ball off a scrum, McGuire traded passes with Keith Senior before jinking over to seal their long awaited win in front of the jubilant Blue-and-Amber masses.

We look back at the last time Leeds and Wigan met at Old Trafford in the inaugural Super League Grand Final in 1998

Leeds and Wigan haven't met at Old Trafford since the inaugural Grand Final of 1998, but it will be the Warriors hoping for a repeat result from that night. They beat Leeds 10-4, but only thanks to a piece of brilliance from one of the game's superstars.

Leeds led 4-0 with three minutes to go until the half-time hooter, but Jason Robinson changed the course of the game in one swift move.

Picking the ball up from dummy half out on the touchline, the winger burst through a tiny gap between Darren Fleary and Jamie Mathiou before rounding Iestyn Harris to scorch under the posts.

That try gave Wigan a lead they'd never relinquish and Billy Whizz was awarded the first Grand Final man-of-the-match trophy for his troubles.
