Injury scare for Solomona

David Solomona admitted to skysports.com that he feared the worst when he hurt his knee in the pre-season clash with Wigan.

New Zealander looking forward to big year with Bradford

David Solomona admitted to skysports.com that he feared the worst when he hurt his knee during Bradford's pre-season defeat to Wigan. The New Zealand international was carried off midway through Paul Deacon's testimonial against the Warriors at Odsal last Sunday. It was thought that Solomona might have damaged his cruciate ligament - an injury that would have kept him sidelined for the majority of the new Super League season. However, the forward has been given good news by the doctors and is likely to be out of action for two months, meaning he will soon be back in action for the Bulls.

Tough

"It's tough but that's the way it goes," he said about his injury. "I'm glad now that it's not that bad. "I've got to wait until the doctor calls me back but it's going to be about six to eight weeks (before I can play). "It's a lot better than doing my cruciate, which I was close to doing. I think it was only close though because of the screams I let out when it happened! "I haven't really done my knee before in the past so I knew I'd done something, although the severity of it I was unsure about." With the news on his knee positive Solomona is now targeting a big year with Bradford - his second at the club since joining from Wakefield.
Focus
He also has the added incentive of knowing a good season for his club could boost his chances of playing for the Kiwis in this year's World Cup. The former Wildcat has won seven international caps but was not part of New Zealand's squad to face Great Britain last year, a series which the Lions won 3-0. "This injury has bought a lot of that into perspective," he admitted. "I've just got to concentrate on the season, I don't want to focus too much on that (the World Cup) because injuries could come or I may not get selected. "I'm just going to worry about what I do with the Bulls first."
