Hull FC coach Peter Gentle admits defence will be key when his side take on Warrington in the latest round of play-off matches this weekend.
Gentle's side head into the clash on a fine run of form having notched up 152 points in their last three matches and conceded only five tries in that same period.
By contrast the Wolves, who finished the regular season in second place, will be looking to pick themselves up after a convincing 28-6 home defeat by St Helens in their semi-final qualifying encounter last weekend.
But Gentle, who team advanced to face Warrington with a one-sided 46-10 triumph over Huddersfield, knows his troops will have to raise their level if they are to shock the Wolves.
"We keep saying the best defensive side will win this competition and Wigan and St Helens put a benchmark down last weekend with the way they defended," the Australian told
Sky Sports News HD.
Up a notch
"I think we matched them in that respect, but we need to take it up a notch this weekend."
With the Black and Whites seemingly hitting form at the right time, some observers have tipped them to cause a surprise or two in the weeks ahead.
But Gentle insists his squad are fully focused on the job in hand and are not looking beyond their next match.
"We don't consider ourselves dark horses," he continued. "We don't mind what we're called, we've got a job to do and we're comfortable at the moment.
"We're playing with confidence, we're playing for each other and there's a real good feel in the camp."
