Wigan have now moved to retain Bowen’s services in 2015 by handing the 32-year-old a 12-month extension, news that has delighted head coach Shaun Wane.

Pleased

Bowen has 13 tries in 17 appearances for the Super League giants and Wane is pleased the full-back will be around longer to mentor the likes of Ryan Hampshire and Lewis Tierney.

"I am so pleased that Matty has decided to stay with us for another season,” Wane told the club’s official website. “His desire to win, great professionalism and his attitude off the field fit perfectly with the Wigan Warriors culture.

“Ryan Hampshire and Lewis Tierney will have another season learning with the best, which is great for us as a club and our desire to continually win competitions.”

Bowen added: "I am very happy to stay for another year, my family's enjoying it over here we love the town. The club have a great coach in ‘Waney’ and great bunch of boys, I couldn’t be happier.”
