Wakefield are considering a groundshare with Dewsbury next season, according to Rams chairman Mark Sawyer.

The Wildcats announced in June they had issued a six-month notice to ground owners Bank of Ireland to leave Belle Vue (currently known as the Rapid Solicitors Stadium), their home for 120 years, claiming the rent was "unsustainable".

The club had hoped to move to a new 12,000 community stadium just off the M62, but those plans have stalled and Wakefield chairman Michael Carter has ruled out sharing Castleford's proposed new ground.

Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium was also understood to be an option but Sawyer announced on his club's website they have entered into discussions with the Wildcats over a possible ground-share at The Tetley's Stadium in 2016.

"The Wildcats are considering possible avenues for a playing venue for next season and they have earmarked The Tetley's Stadium as a serious option,” he said.

"We are looking at this very seriously, in constant and current liaison with Wakefield, and further announcements will be made should there be any developments in the weeks ahead."

Carter has stated Wakefield would be prepared to stay at their current ground, if the rent at Belle Vue can be renegotiated.

The Wildcats also have concerns on the pitch, as they finished bottom at the end of the regular Super League season, with Brian Smith’s side recording just three victories and finishing with a points-difference of -527.

They now face a battle to remain in the top-flight next season, with their lowly league position seeing them enter the inaugural qualifiers.

The format sees the bottom four Super League sides take on the top four from the Championship in a ‘Middle Eights’ mini-league for the right to play in the top division next season.
