Airlie Birds boss delighted to land winger on loan

Hull FC coach Peter Gentle has labelled the signing of Jamie Foster on a one-month loan as a real 'coup' for the club. The 21-year-old has joined the East Yorkshire side in search of first-team rugby after slipping behind Tommy Makinson and Josh Jones in Saints' pecking order. The Black and Whites were on the lookout for cover in the backs with highly-rated youngster Ben Crooks facing knee surgery. Gentle is pleased with Foster's ability to find the try line and is also looking forward to having his goal-kicking ability on board.

Coup

"With Ben facing surgery which we couldn't delay any longer, we felt it was important to try and bring somebody in with the deadline approaching and to land a player of Jamie's calibre is a real coup," Gentle told the club's official website. "He had a fantastic season last year for Saints scoring plenty of tries as well as being an accomplished goal kicker so he certainly fits the bill. "He is a talented youngster with pace and an eye for a try and he comes here with a point to prove so we look forward to seeing him in the Black and White of Hull."
Option
Gentle believes Foster, who will train with his new team-mates on Friday, will provide an additional goal-kicking option for Joe Westerman. "Jamie's kicking was also a major plus for us," commented Gentle. "It gives us another option to Westy if we need it. "In terms of other options to cover Ben, we could have had a look at Tom Lineham. "Tom certainly has a bright future with us, but at this stage of his development it would be unfair on the kid to throw him in having missed a vital part of the season, so having a player with first-grade experience is probably right for us at this stage."
