Salford owner Marwan Koukash is set to stay with the club following their great escape but warned there will be cost-cutting.

The Red Devils preserved their place in Super League with a nail-biting 19-18 win over Hull KR in the Million Pound Game at the Lightstream Stadium.

Koukash, who has ploughed millions of pounds of his own money into Salford since rescuing them from the brink of financial ruin nearly four years ago, had said he would consider his future at the end of the season.

"My gut feeling this morning is that I would like to stay, I'd like to give it one more go," Koukash said.

"I think there is some potential there. I think what took place yesterday gave the club a huge lift and we have undoubtedly a talented group of boys and with the addition of two or three players we could go places.

"If we could get it right off the field, in terms of marketing and attracting more people to come to the ground, we'll be fine.

However, Koukash has warned the club must learn to stand on its own two feet as he scales back his own investment and has identified ways to improve the financial position.

"I'm not going to be doing what I've done previously," he said.

Salford scrum-half Michael Dobson had mixed emotions as Salford beat his former club Hull KR

"There is an awful lot of wastage within the club. There are people within the club that are getting paid good money but not producing. I'm talking about off-field people.

"It's going to be about cutting down costs and increasing income."

Koukash will not be replacing director of rugby Tim Sheens, who was released from the last two years of his contract to enable him to become head coach of Hull KR.

"Tim came in to help Ian Watson, who deserves great credit for preparing the players for yesterday's game," he said.
