Warrington captain Chris Hill left his side's Super League opener against Leeds early to be with his wife as she went into labour.
Hill, 30, left the pitch in the second half of the 12-16 defeat on Thursday evening after hearing his wife had gone into labour.
As the Wolves captain witnessed the birth of his fourth child - a baby girl - the Halliwell Jones stadium witnessed their team losing in the absence of their captain.
Wolves head coach Steve Price and the rest of the team were supportive of Hill's decision.
Price said: "It was important Chris did the right thing, to be beside his wife. It was one of those things. Chris made that decision and he had our support.
"We were aware of it before the game, she was having contractions," Price explained. "I guess the timing worked out in Leeds' favour."
Hill's England team-mate Alex Walmsley also left a Super League match in similar circumstances, as his girlfriend went into labour.
