The Rhinos have been paired with their Yorkshire rivals in the fourth round, a team who have already beaten Leeds in league action after a 14-12 success in round two.
Although Leeds have prospered in Grand Finals in recent seasons, the Challenge Cup has proved elusive with six defeats in finals since their success over the London Broncos at the old Wembley in 1999.
McDermott knows the Tigers will pose a threat at Headingley despite their lowly league placing.
Continuity
"Other than one round, against Leigh, we've drawn Super League teams all the way through for the last two years so there's a bit of continuity there," explained McDermott.
"We don't have to get up and down for potentially lower-division teams and it keeps us sharp because Castleford have already beaten us this year.
"They've got some cracking individual players in their team who on a dry track will, and have, troubled us. We know what's in front of us."
