Hull KR coach James Webster was quick to praise Hull FC for their derby win

Hull KR coach James Webster dismissed any relegation fears after his side were condemned to the Super 8s Qualifiers for the second successive year.

Webster was in a defiant mood despite his side's loss 36-12 loss in the Hull derby on Thursday night.

The defeat ended the Robins' slender hopes of finishing in the top eight and, after next Thursday's final game of the regular season against Leeds, they will face a seven-match series to determine the make-up of Super League in 2017.

"We'll re-assess on Friday but we're going to go out hell bent on winning every single game for the last eight weeks," said Webster, who remains in charge until the appointment of a new head coach.

"I'm really confident we'll get the job done. Instead of being the hunted, you want be the one doing the hunting and we'll go out with the mentality that we're going to go after these games.

"It's the only way to do it. You need to stop thinking about what bad things could happen and think about the opportunity to win some games.

"My full focus is to be positive and go out there and get the job done."

Marc Sneyd analyses Hull FC's 36-12 win over Hull KR in the Super League.

Hull KR failed to make the most of an enterprising opening and, after conceding quickfire tries to Liam Watts and Danny Houghton, were out of contention by half-time as they trailed 18-0.

"You've got to give Hull credit, I thought they were very good," Webster said. "They completed at over 80 per cent in the first half and that took a lot of energy out of us.

"We had two good chances in the first half but didn't take them and after that they had eight sets in a row.

"We could have scored 24, maybe 30 points without ever having a foothold in the game so that gives me some encouragement going forward."

Winger Steve Michaels and second rower Mark Minichiello scored two tries apiece as Hull bounced back from successive defeats to secure a fifth successive derby triumph.

"We needed to get our form and fluency back and I thought we did that tremendously well," Hull coach Lee Radford said.

"I'm just really pleased with the performance. After withstanding that early pressure and to be as clinical as we were was really pleasing. Our tryline defence was phenomenal."

Danny Houghton says the win over Hull KR was a performance Hull FC needed after successive defeats

In-form scrum-half Marc Sneyd once more pulled the strings and Radford was delighted with the contribution of his half-back partner Jordan Abdull, who deputised impressively for the injured Carlos Tuimavave on only his third appearance of the season.

"I thought he was outstanding tonight and I'm really pleased for him," Radford said. "He's slowly been getting some confidence back in the reserves over the last three or four weeks.

"He's been taken out of the spotlight of first-team football and we've seen the benefits. For him to jump straight in and do what he did tonight was a massive pat on the back."

Webster sprang a surprise by including goalkicking winger Josh Mantellato for his first appearance since Good Friday and three weeks ahead of schedule after recovering from injury.

"He wasn't going to play but we had some late pull-outs," Webster explained. "It wasn't a risk, he was fully fit. I'm looking forward to him playing these last eight games."
