Rochdale Hornets have announced that centre Lewis Galbraith has had an eight-match ban for verbal abuse overturned on appeal.

The 22-year-old was handed the hefty suspension by a Rugby Football League independent operational rules tribunal after he was found guilty of "verbal abuse based on race/colour".

The charge arose from a complaint by Oldham following an incident involving their forward Sam Gee in the last minute of the Kingstone Press Championship derby at the Summer Bash in Blackpool on May 27.

Galbraith pleaded not guilty to the Grade F offence and Rochdale stood by their player, with chief executive Adam Bates claiming there was no independent evidence to prove the alleged incident happened.

In a statement, the club said: "Rochdale Hornets can confirm that Lewis Galbraith has had an eight-match ban for verbal abuse overturned following a Red Hall appeal.
