Josh Mansour has become the second Penrith Panthers player to be called into Australia's Rugby League World Cup squad as a late replacement.
The winger, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a training accident during last year's Four Nations series in England, gets his chance following the withdrawal of Darius Boyd, who has failed to recover from a hamstring injury.
"Obviously it's disappointing for Darius, who has been a fantastic player for the Kangaroos," said coach Mal Meninga.
"It will be wonderful to see Josh back in the Kangaroos jersey after his injury in last year's Four Nations.
"I know how disappointed he was to be injured last year and I know how passionate he is about the green and gold.
"It is a credit to him that he has been able to return to the highest representative honours."
Mansour joins his Penrith team-mate Reagan Campbell-Gillard, who was called up following the shock withdrawal of Cronulla forward Andrew Fifita.
Fifita was named in the Kangaroos' 24-man squad just 48 hours ago but rang Meninga to express his desire to represent Tonga instead.
"Andrew called me and said he was passionate about playing for Tonga and I respect and support that decision," added Meninga.
"It is obviously a significant boost for Tonga as well as the World Cup - and international rugby league in general.
"At the same time it is also a great opportunity for someone like Reagan, who has been outstanding for the Panthers.
"I'm extremely excited about seeing Reagan in a Kangaroos jersey."
Australia play England in the opening game in Melbourne on October 27.
