England forward Sam Burgess has been hit with a two-match ban after being found guilty of making dangerous contact with an opposition player.
Burgess pleaded not guilty to a grade one dangerous contact charge for a tackle on Josh Morris during South Sydney's 20-16 win over Canterbury last Friday.
The 29-year-old argued he was bracing for contact but the NRL judiciary found him guilty of the offence, adding 140 points to Burgess' record. He already had 85 carry-over points, resulting in a two-match suspension.
Burgess will miss the Rabbitohs' clash against St George-Illawarra Dragons and England team-mates Gareth Widdop and James Graham on Friday, and their derby against Sydney Roosters on April 12.
Both games are live on Sky Sports Arena.
"I'm obviously very disappointed with the result," said Burgess.
"I don't want to make any further comment other than we've got a game to prepare for on Friday night against the Dragons and we don't want this to be a distraction."
Souths are on a two-game winning streak and sit eighth in the NRL table after four rounds.
