Andy Murray resumes challenge for French Open title against Mathias Bourgue

Andy Murray will be hoping to avoid another demanding match when he faces Frenchman Mathias Bourgue in the second round of the French Open.

The world No 2 endured a difficult start to his title bid, eventually completing a 3-6 3-6 6-0 6-3 7-5 victory over Radek Stepanek at Roland Garros.

Murray will be expected to produce a more convincing victory in his first competitive singles match against Bourgue, who is ranked No 164 in the world.

Defending champion Stan Wawrinka also suffered a first-round scare, overcoming Lukas Rosol in five sets, and will return to action against Japanese player Taro Daniel.

Fifth seed Kei Nishikori had no such problems as he swept aside Simone Bolelli in straight sets to secure a meeting with Andrey Kuznetsov on another packed day of matches in Paris.

Canadian Milos Raonic and French duo Richard Gasquet and Gilles Simon are other notable names in the men's draw who are due to appear on court on Wednesday.

Heather Watson is Britain's last female representative in the women's draw and will be hoping to improve on her past appearances in the tournament by reaching the third round.

The British No 2 will need to pull off an upset win over 13th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, who was a losing finalist in 2004.

Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska will come up against another home player, Caroline Garcia, while fourth seed Garbine Muguruza and the sixth-seeded Simona Halep will be trying to continue their progress on the clay.
