Garbine Muguruza claimed the biggest win of her career by beating Timea Bacsinszky in the final of the WTA China Open.
The Spaniard, who will rise to No 4 in the world when the new rankings are published on Monday, beat Bacsinszky 7-5 6-4 after falling into an early hole.
Bacsinszky started the match in fine form, taking a 5-2 lead, but Muguruza regrouped and reeled off five straight games to take the opening set.
The pattern was similar in the second set, Bacsinszky claiming an early break to lead 2-0, but she was unable to hold on to her momentum as Muguruza went on to claim her second WTA Tour career title and first of the season.
"For me, to be able to come and win the tournament after losing in the finals of Wuhan last week is a great achievement. It's amazing, and I can't wait to come back and defend my title next year," Muguruza said.
Muguruza finishes the week just one point behind world No 3 Maria Sharapova, while there was also reward for Bacsinszky, who will climb into the top 10 for the first time.
