Katie Swan and Heather Watson beaten as Great Britain lose to Belgium

Great Britain's Fed Cup hopes are over after both Heather Watson and Katie Swan were beaten in their singles rubbers against Belgium.
Victories over South Africa and Georgia earlier in the week had put Judy Murray's team into a Euro Africa Group I promotion play-off at the tournament in Israel as they looked to make the World Group II play-offs.
However, against players ranked higher than them both Watson and Swan lost out in three-set matches to ensure that the doubles match will have no bearing on the outcome.
With Australian Open semi-finalist and new world number 28 Johanna Konta ruled out Swan was in action first and the 16-year-old, who made history earlier in the week by becoming GB's youngest ever player, lost the opening set.
The teenager fought back to claim the second set against Ysaline Bonaventure who is ranked at 160 in the world, considerably higher than Swan's 524 standing and the Belgian's experience proved crucial in the decider to close out a 6-3 3-6 6-3 victory.
Watson then needed a victory to keep alive any hopes of further progress for Great Britain and she lost the first set to world number 85 Alison van Uytvanck.
Like Swan, Watson hit back to claim the second set but van Uytvanck was too strong in the decider and closed out a 6-4 3-6 6-4 win for the Belgians.
