Kyle Edmund is projected to be seeded 16 at the French Open, so will Britain's No 1 make another deep run at a Grand Slam? Leif Shiras speaks about his chances.
Edmund reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open earlier this year with his best run at a major tournament and has since produced some solid results on clay.
He was runner-up in Marrakech, and reached the quarter-finals in Madrid. Last week, he lost to eventual finalist Alexander Zverev 7-5 7-6 (13-11) in the last 16 of the Rome Masters.
The Briton, who has reached a career-high of 17, hired Darren Chin, who is a former British sprinter and training partner of Usain Bolt, earlier this month.
His fitness and form have slowly gathered pace with Chin's motivation complementing the work of long-time physical trainer Ian Prangley, and coach Fredrik Rosengren.
We didn't expect him to go as far as he has, but he's proving to everyone that he can do this and he's for real.
Shiras believes the 23-year-old has enough confidence and ability to go beyond the first week at Roland Garros.
"Look at his seeding. I think he can make it to the second week, the fourth round, and from there they say that second week is like a new tournament," Shiras told Sky Sports.
"Something good could happen for him, and why not? He's playing the kind of tennis that would suggest he could beat a top guy. He is becoming a top guy himself. We didn't expect him to go as far as he has, but he's proving to everyone that he can do this and he's for real.
"It's nice when you have a game like his that's dependable, it's sound, it's got weapons, and he's confident and well coached. A lot of good things are going on for him."
