The world number 19 needed just 44 minutes to see off the challenge of her Australian opponent and book a clash with Yaroslava Shvedova, who upset sixth seed Kurumi Nara, 6-4 6-2.
Italian Karin Knapp and Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic also progressed, recording respective straight-set victories over Polona Hercog and Alison Van Uytvanck
In first round action, top seed Angelique Kerber registered her first win on clay this season, knocking out New Zealand's Marina Erakovic 6-4 6-2.
The German, who had recently suffered early exits in Madrid and Rome, will next come up against compatriot Anna-Lena Friedsam.
"I've never played against her," Kerber told the WTA Tour's official website.
"I think it will be interesting to play against another German here in Germany. I'm looking forward to it and hope that I can have some more matches before Paris."
