Donna Vekic has broken her silence after Nick Kyrgios embroiled her at the centre of a sledging row last week.
In his Montreal Masters match against Stan Wawrinka, Kyrgios scorned his opponent with a taunt aimed at Vekic.
The 19-year-old world No 128 has been romantically linked to Wawrinka but Kyrgios muttered an implication that she was also associated with fellow player Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Kyrgios' slur about the Croatian teenager and his Australian Davis Cup team-mate provoked outrage but Vekic has finally responded to the allegation.
"It's not easy but I'm trying to focus on tennis and my next match," she told Canadian newspaper The Province.
"I haven't spoken to Kyrgios. But it's a very disappointing thing to be happening in our sport.
"I hope it won't happen again because it's not a very good image for our sport."
Kokkinakis, who was dragged into the furore by Kyrgios' ill-advised comment, has also expressed disappointment in his friend.
Unlike Vekic, Kokkinakis revealed that he has spoken to Kyrgios about the situation and stressed how it must not be repeated.
"He apologised to me," Kokkinakis said. "I let him know, I made it pretty clear that he can't be doing that.
"If he's got a problem, he's got to say it in private. The way he went about it definitely wasn't the right thing."
