British No 3 Kyle Edmund was beaten in the first round of Wimbledon, losing in just over two hours to France's Adrian Mannarino 6-2 7-5 6-4.

Edmund had looked in good form when pushing Andy Murray in three sets at the Aegon Championship at Queen's a fortnight ago.

However, he was broken in the third game by Mannarino and won just one point behind his second serve as the first set slipped away.

World No 55 Mannarino broke again early in the second set, only for Edmund to fight back and level at 5-5.

But the Frenchman won the next two games to take control of the contest, two sets to the good.

Edmund threatened a comeback in the third set as, from 0-2 down he moved into a 4-3 lead. However, Mannarino battled back and broke to love to book his place in the third round.

World No 772 and British No 23 Marcus Willis caused the biggest upset of the day as he shocked Ricardas Berankis, ranked 718 places above him, in straight sets.

Andy Murray is in action on Tuesday as he takes on fellow Brit Liam Broady in the first round.
