French Open champion Garbine Muguruza crashed out in the second round of Wimbledon after a shock 6-3 6-4 defeat to Jana Cepelova on Thursday.
The second seed was expected to challenge again at the All England Club after reaching the final last year.
However, she was swept aside in less than an hour on Court One after an error-strewn display against world No 124 Cepelova.
"I think my energy was missing a little bit today," said Muguruza. "Today during the match, and after the match, I'm like, it's a tough day.
"I feel empty a little bit, and I start to be sick. But I think it was a little bit of a combination. My energy was not really there. I was trying, but it didn't work at all."
A scrappy start from the Spaniard set the tone as she found herself 3-0 down after only eight minutes.
The second seed got on the board with a hold of serve but errors continued to fly off her racquet as she surrendered another break to fall 5-1 behind.
Cepelova failed to serve out the set at the first time of asking, but made no mistake second time round.
The break between sets did little to help Muguruza as unforced errors continued to tot up and hamper any hopes of a comeback.
There was no let up from qualifier Cepelova on the other side of the net as she established a commanding 4-0 lead.
Muguruza squandered three break-point chances at 4-1 and then lost the match in meek fashion with a backhand into the net.
Elsewhere number three seed and former Wimbledon finalist Agnieska Radwanska survived a huge scare to come through her second round match with Croatian teenager Ana Konjuh.
Radwanska looked good value to coast into the last 32 when she eased to the first set 6-2 but the world number 103 hit back superbly to take the second and then seize the initiative in the decider with an early break.
Serving for the match she wasted three match points as Radwanska battled back to level at 5-5. The two women traded breaks before holding serve and with the match level at 7-7 the pivotal moment came when Konjuh trod on the ball when racing into the net.
Treatment was required and while the 18-year-old battled on bravely she was clearly in some discomfort and a relieved Radwanska saw out the match to claim the third set 9-7 and a third-round meeting with world number 114 Katerina Siniakova who beat 30th seed Caroline Garcia.
