Top seed Caroline Wozniacki landed her first title of the season as she thrashed Roberta Vinci in the final of the WTA Istanbul Cup.

On the day former fiancé Rory McIlroy won the Open Championship at Hoylake, Wozniacki produced an impressive display of her own as she overwhelmed Vinci to emerge a 6-1 6-1 winner.

The Dane’s success was built around solidity on her own serve as she fended off all six break-points earned by Vinci.

She was clinical on return too, breaking her rival five times in total as she romped to the 22nd WTA win of her career in just 67 minutes.

"I'm happy to have won my 22nd WTA title, it's a great feeling,” she told reporters. “I'm happy how the final went today. I served well and pushed her around the court, and I really dictated the match.

Vinci added: "I tried to play aggressively like always but made a lot of mistakes. It's tough to play like that against Caroline because she puts everything back in the court, and it was tough for me to stay in the rallies today.

“But I'm happy with my week and Caroline just played much better than me."
