Owens v Reigns set for Royal Rumble on January 29
Tuesday 20 December 2016 11:00, UK
Kevin Owens will defend the Universal Title against Roman Reigns at January's Royal Rumble pay-per-view - with his best pal Chris Jericho suspended above the ring in a shark cage!
Raw General Manager Mick Foley made that announcement on Monday night after Jericho's meddling had allowed Owens to beat Reigns via disqualification at Roadblock and retain his belt.
Jericho became distressed after trying out the cage but recovered in time to team with Owens to take on Reigns and Seth Rollins, the men who blasted them through announce desks at Roadblock.
Braun Strowman, however, gate-crashed the main event, attacking Rollins and Reigns having hurled Sin Cara into a Christmas tree earlier in the night while the masked star battled Titus O'Neil.
Reigns, subjected to a vicious running powerslam from Strowman before Raw rolled off air, will meet Owens for the Universal Title on Sunday, January 29, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Elsewhere on Raw, new Women's Champion Charlotte lost to Bayley for the third time in a row, the Queen pinned following a backslide with the referee not seeing that her shoulder was off the mat.
Sasha Banks, whom Charlotte beat in an Iron Man Match on Sunday to seize the Women's Title, was ambushed by Nia Jax after heading to the ring on crutches to congratulate the new champion.
Raw Tag Team Champions, Sheamus and Cesaro, were presented with the brand's swanky new red title belts after ending The New Day's record-breaking 483-day reign on Sunday evening.
The new and old champions bickered on Monday's show but then banded to down Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows and The Shining Stars, Cesaro submitting Epico with a Cesaro Swing Sharpshooter.
Newcastle star Neville, the self-proclaimed 'King of the Cruiserweights', received a helping hand from The Brian Kendrick as he assaulted Rich Swann and TJ Perkins, just as he had done at Roadblock.
Neville's fellow British cruiserweight, Scotland's Noam Dar, lost to Cedric Alexander via the Lumbar Check, while Rusev beat Big Cass via disqualification after his opponent refused to quell an attack.
Rusev was not done for the evening, though; the Bulgarian Brute thundering Cass' partner Enzo Amore through a table while he attended sensitivity training.
