The Miz defeated Roman Reigns to recapture the Intercontinental title on a nostalgia-packed 25th anniversary episode of Raw.
In what was the biggest match on the show - albeit one that featured around the halfway mark, Miz regained the championship he lost to Reigns on Raw in November 2017.
He got the victory after hitting Reigns with a second Skullcrushing Finale, the champion having kicked out of his earlier attempt.
Reigns had been debilitated after colliding with the turnbuckles after attempting a spear, and replays later showed Miz had removed one of the turnbuckle pad covers to leave it exposed.
Austin returns to stun McMahons
Vince McMahon made it clear he sees himself as the key reason for the success of Monday Night Raw, but was less than pleased when his children Shane and Stephanie presented him with a commemorative plaque.
The WWE chairman was about to leave the ring in disgust when Steve Austin's familiar music played out and he delivered Stunners to both Shane and Vince before chugging down a few beers.
The show also included a performance from DX, who joined forces with Balor Club to defeat The Revival while the Dudley Boyz returned to put Heath Slater through a table in typical style.
Elias breaks guitar over Cena
Elias had a momentous night at the anniversary show, starting when his name was put on Chris Jericho's list after a backstage encounter between the two.
Things got better for the Drifter with another well-received musical segment, which was interrupted by an appearance and challenge from John Cena.
Although he turned down the challenge, Elias did have a confrontation of sorts with Cena, delivering a guitar-shattering shot to his back after a low blow.
Asuka turns back on partners
The Empress gave an early illustration that she plans to follow the typical Royal Rumble ethos of 'friend against friend' to the letter by wiping out her team-mates moments after winning a match.
With Asuka, Bayley, Mickie James and Sasha Banks celebrating a win over Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Nia Jax and Alicia Fox, the Japanese superstar took it upon herself to put the boots to her colleagues and leave them grounded,
With the women's Royal Rumble taking place on Sunday night, it will be difficult to look past Asuka.
