Shane McMahon was left a broken man after a vicious SmackDown beatdown

Shane McMahon's planned leave of absence from SmackDown turned into an enforced one on Tuesday's episode.

The blue brand's commissioner began his speech by saying he would be taking some time out from his on-screen role with Daniel Bryan due to return after a miniature hiatus of his own.

His final act before doing so, to announce a WrestleMania match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, did not go down well with either competitor.

But there are surely better ways and means to channel such frustrations than to put a chair around the boss' neck and ram him into a ringpost?

The planned match between Zayn and Owens is now in doubt and so too is the immediate wellbeing of Shane O Mac, who was struggling for breath as SmackDown faded to black.

McMahon will surely seek some kind of retribution for the assault and with Bryan due back next week, this long-running storyline could be about to take an intriguing twist...
