Chris Eubank Jr's desire to tackle the fearsome Gennady Golovkin may soon become reality, according to Eddie Hearn.

Promoter Hearn says talks to pitch the son of British ring great Chris Eubank against triple world middleweight title holder Golovkin are at an advanced stage.

The 26-year-old, who has won 22 of his 23 professional fights, defends his British middleweight title against Tom Doran at the O2 Arena on Sky Sports Box Office on June 25, and victory could set the stage for a massive showdown this autumn.

Hearn told Sky Sports News HQ: "When we started working with Chris Eubank again, the message was clear: Make the Gennady Golovkin fight.

"I asked them behind closed doors whether it was a joke but they told me 'It's real - make the fight'. And over the last couple of weeks that's what we've been doing.

"We're in a position now where we haven't agreed terms but we're well on the way to agreeing terms with Golovkin for a September fight with Chris Eubank Jr.

Chris Eubank Sr says he was good enough to beat a fighter like Golovkin so his son should have no fear of Triple G

"He must beat Tom Doran - it's a defence of his British title. We've just seen Doran coming off the back of a fight of the year contender against Luke Keeler.

"He can really, really punch and if Eubank takes his eye off the ball he can forget about the likes of Golovkin.

"But certainly that fight is ramping up speed and don't be surprised to see Eubank-Golovkin in September."
