Gloucestershire batsman joining Essex on two-month deal

The Essex Eagles have signed former Gloucestershire batsman Mark Hardinges on a short-term deal. The 31-year-old, who made his debut for the Gladiators back in 1999, has moved to Chelmsford until the end of July. He averages 26.53 with the bat in his first-class career and 21.16 in Twenty20 cricket. The Gloucesterman is also able to bowl some medium pace and has picked up 95 victims in 50 first-class matches. Essex are already without England internationals Alastair Cook and Ravi Bopara, who are currently playing against the West Indies. Bopara and county colleagues James Foster and Graham Napier have also been named in England's squad for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in June.
