Wicketkeeper may miss remainder of Test series

Pakistan are sweating over the fitness of wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider ahead of the third Test match against England at The Oval. Haider faces a race against time to make Wednesday's penultimate Test after X-rays confirmed he suffered a hairline fracture while batting in the previous match at Edgbaston. The 24-year-old Zulqarnain led a gutsy Pakistan fightback in the second innings of the Birmingham Test with a brilliant 88 on his debut, helping the tourists avoid an innings defeat However his heroics appear to have come at a cost and his participation in the remainder of the series is now in doubt. "Zulqarnain suffered an injury to his little finger in the right hand while batting in the second Test and preliminary tests have revealed its a hairline fracture," a Pakistan Cricket Board statement said. "He will undergo a further test in London before a final decision is taken on his further participation on the tour is taken." The injury is the latest blow to the already injury-hit Pakistan who have lost frontline paceman Umar Gul for the rest of the Test series due to a hamstring problem.
