Kent all-rounder and Compton rewarded for early season form

England have named Kent all-rounder Matt Coles in their 12-man Lions squad to face West Indies in a four-day fixture at Northampton. Coles, 21, has been rewarded for an impressive start to the summer that has seen him take 21 first-class wickets and register a century. Nottinghamshire batsman James Taylor will once again captain a side that includes Michael Carberry and Samit Patel, who have both represented England at Test level. Nine of the squad toured Bangladesh or Sri Lanka with England Lions last winter with Carberry, Nick Compton and Ben Stokes also included. National selector, Geoff Miller, said: "Many of the players included in this squad have worked hard on our overseas tours and training camps over the winter or have shown good early season form. "West Indies will no doubt be challenging opposition and this fixture will present an opportunity for players to show that they are capable of taking the next step and representing England at Test level in the future." England Lions will play West Indies at Wantage Road from May 10-13. Squad:
J Taylor (Notts, capt), J Bairstow (Yorkshire, wkt), J Brooks (Northants), M Carberry (Hampshire), M Coles (Kent), N Compton (Somerset), J Dernbach (Surrey), S Kerrigan (Lancashire), S Meaker (Surrey), S Patel (Notts), J Root (Yorkshire), B Stokes (Durham)
