Essex all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate has signed a new contract which will keep him with the club until at least the end of the 2016 season.

The 34-year-old Netherlands international has been with Essex since making his debut in 2003 and has developed a reputation as a hard-hitting middle-order batsman and a reliable seam bowler.

Ten Doeschate has scored 21 centuries and has a career first-class average of 46.26.

He led Essex to the quarter-finals of both the NatWest T20 Blast and the Royal London One-Day Cup last season after taking over as the county’s one-day captain.

Essex head coach Paul Grayson told the county’s official website: “Ryan has been a fantastic servant for Essex County Cricket Club, and we are very pleased he has decided to extend his time here.
