Michael Atherton told the Saturday Debate that it's more dishonest for a player to walk on some occasions and not others, rather than never walk at all.

Each week on The Saturday Debate our panel discuss a big issue in the world of cricket and this week they turned their attention to the 'spirit of the game'.

Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain, Michael Holding and Sir Ian Botham joined host Ian Ward to debate what the term relates to as well as it's relevance and importance in the modern game.

Among the things discussed was if there is a need for the spirit of the game to be included in the laws, or whether players should just be trusted to play with the right moral values and principles.

Players' personal decisions on whether to walk, and the 'Mankad' mode of dismissal's place in the game were also up for debate, as was the change in perception to what constitutes the 'spirit of cricket' over the years.

The panel also discussed its role in the lower levels of cricket, at clubs up and down the country.
