Alex Hales will miss the rest of England's tour of India with a fractured hand.
Hales sustained the injury in the field during Thursday's defeat in the second one-day international, diving to attempt to catch a shot from centurion, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
England lost that game in Cuttack by 15 runs and handed India victory in the series.
The opener had a scan after arriving in Kolkata and results have shown the injury, which will most likely mean a chance for Sam Billings or Jonny Bairstow.
England and India play three Twenty20 internationals after the final 50-over game, the last of those coming on February 1.
Hales will have just over a month to recover with England's next limited overs action coming in the West Indies, with their three one-day internationals starting on March 3.
Meanwhile, England have been fined by the International Cricket Council for a slow over-rate during the second ODI.
Skipper Eoin Morgan pleaded guilty to the offence after his side were found to be one over short of their target and he was fined 20 per cent of his match fee.
Morgan's team-mates also received 10 per cent fines.
