Indian Cricket League fall-out continues

New Zealand players who took part in the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) are unlikely to play for the national team again. Chris Cairns, Nathan Astle, Chris Harris, Craig McMillan, Hamish Marshall and Daryl Tuffey all took part in the ICL despite the International Cricket Council's refusal to sanction the tournament. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chief executive Justin Vaughan told the Sunday Star Times: "We have a preference that our selectors take into consideration the fact that that these guys have been playing in an unsanctioned competition, an event that isn't in the best interests of New Zealand or world cricket, and that we'd rather that they didn't play. "I don't think we can say that they're ineligible for selection. We'd prefer to say that the selectors will be encouraged to consider other players. "There's an understanding that we don't support the ICL and that we don't want to give them unnecessary traction." Harris, Cairns, Astle and McMillan have all retired from international cricket. Marshall recently turned down a central contract with the NZC to play in England while Tuffey was not offered a deal. However, players who took part in the ICL are still allowed to play domestic cricket.
