India paceman focused on becoming even quicker

India fast bowler Ishant Sharma believes speed is his main weapon and he is not prepared to compromise his pace for more accuracy. The 19-year-old shone in Australia where he was an influential part of the bowling attack in the Test matches, and the recent Commonwealth Bank Series where he took 14 wickets from nine matches. The Delhi-born paceman ripped through the Australia batsmen with his pace, bounce and movement - taking a particular likening to skipper Ricky Ponting. Out of those attributes Ishant ranks pace as the most important weapon in his armoury. "I want to become a complete fast bowler," he said.

Very tough

"I always concentrate on line and length and variations without compromising on pace. I know speed is my strength." Ishant admitted his delight with his recent performances and revealed that he tried to steer clear of the on-field distractions Down Under. "I was told it would be very tough but I made a promise to myself that I would make the most of it," Ishant said. "I had to learn on and off the field and there was no place for any distractions. I was not going to allow my cricket to be dominated." Ishant is resting after the three-month long tour, but will certainly be in contention when selectors pick the squad for the three-match home Test series against South Africa on March 17.
