Australia vice-captain still believes his team can overcome England
Michael Clarke is keen to see Australia force a positive result in the last two days of the first Ashes Test.
The Baggy Greens vice-captain made 83 and combined with Marcus North (54 not out) to get the visitors to 479 for five by the end of day three at Cardiff.
Clarke became the first dismissal under floodlights in Test cricket in Britain late in the day following a two-hour stoppage for rain.
But, despite seeing umpires Aleem Dar and Billy Doctrove offer the batsmen the chance to go off for bad light soon after, Clarke is maintaining a positive mindset.
"When I was out there the light was okay and I have no excuses for my dismissal," said Clarke.
"The lights generally around the world are pretty good and I've just found out it's the first time they have used them here so mark me down for the first wicket.
"It would have been special to get a hundred because for the team I would have liked to have been there at the end of the day's play.
"More than the amount of runs, I was just disappointed to get out like that and put Brad Haddin under pressure for those couple of overs he had to come in.
"The wicket is fantastic at the moment, we're in a good position and hopefully the rain will stay away tomorrow and we can continue batting and put some pressure back on England. If the rain stays away I definitely believe we can get a result."
The Australians now hold a first innings lead of 44 runs but England bowler James Anderson, who claimed two of the three wickets to fall in a spell with the second new ball, is also refusing to get downhearted.
"We have got a big session first thing in the morning which will probably decide whether we can win the game or not," Anderson said.
"We will have to work out how we can get those last five wickets pretty quickly - we certainly believe we can still win."
Further inclement weather is forecast for the weekend, so both teams will need to make speedy progress if they are to force a result either way.
