Ben Stokes calls day four a big day for England, saying they need their bowlers to perform to salvage anything from the second Ashes Test.

Ben Stokes is determined England make Australia fight all the way if they are to level the Investec Ashes Series at Lord's.

Australia ended day three well on top, bowling England out for 312 and building their lead to 362 with all 10 second innings wickets remaining.

Stokes scored 87, but apart from his innings and 96 from captain Alastair Cook, their batting was disappointing and Australia openers David Warner and Chris Rogers went on to make things look easy.

Warner moved on to 60 by stumps, with Rogers on 44 as they moved almost effortlessly to 108-0, ready for an early morning onslaught on Sunday before sending England back in - their only escape came when Warner was dropped by Adam Lyth before scoring a run.

Josh Hazlewood took 3-68 as Australia maintained their strong lead in the second Ashes Test.

Stokes told Sky Sports Ashes: "We tried to keep playing positively, our natural way, we didn't get off to the best start yesterday but me and Cookie managed to rebuild.

"It's been working for me the last couple of weeks, trying to stay as positive as I can but treating every ball on its merit.

"We're under the pump, tomorrow's a big day for us.
