Yorkshire bowled Somerset out for just 110 on day one of their LV= County Championship Division One clash against Somerset at Headingley.

Jack Brooks took 5-35 as table-topping Yorkshire picked up three bonus bowling points to help maintain their impressive push for back-to-back titles.

Things could have been even worse for Somerset, at 36-6 at one stage, before Luke Ronchi (25) and Lewis Gregory (24) chipped in with a couple of handy scores to help them past 100.

Yorkshire reached 138-3 at the close, with England's Adam Lyth (62) hitting fifty and team-mate Gary Ballance (49no) one short of his own half century.

Captain Andrew Gale fell for five shortly before the close of play though to slightly dampen their day.

Somerset's struggles could see them dragged back into the relegation scrap at the foot of the table, with two of the struggling teams, Worcestershire and Sussex facing each other at New Road.

England's Chris Jordan took 5-57 to help the visitors reduce Worcestershire to 185-9 on day one, although with the hosts 117-7 it's not quite the dominant position Sussex would have hoped for.

Will Gidman steadied the ship with an unbeaten 37, aided by useful contributions from Jack Shantry (15) and Saeed Ajmal (22) before the rain came and ended play early..

Bottom-of-the table Hampshire, who might also have one eye on proceedings at New Road, had a mixed day at Chester-le-Street against Durham.

They reduced the home side to 65-5, before Ryan Pringle hit 99 to help them recover to 213 all out.

Ryan McLaren led the way with 4-60 for Hampshire, while Gareth Berg (3-27) and Fidel Edwards (3-57) pitched in with three wickets apiece.

Top-order trio of Michael Carberry (16), Jimmy Adams (four), and captain James Vince (nine), all fell cheaply as Hampshire closed on 77-3.

That was it for the action in Division One, with no play possible between Warwickshire and Middlesex at Edgbaston due to rain.

And as a result Middlesex's hopes of hanging on to Yorkshire's tails in the race for Division One title were dealt a major blow.
