Nick Browne's unbeaten double century provided the platform for Specsavers County Championship Division Two leaders Essex to take complete control of the match against Derbyshire at Derby.

The opener was unbeaten on 229, his second double hundred of the season against Derbyshire, when Essex declared at 530-9 with Ryan ten Doeschate scoring 60 and Paul Walter 47 on his first-class debut.

Derbyshire seamer Tom Milnes claimed a Championship-best 6-93 but it was the only positive for the home side who collapsed before tea and closed the day 116-6.

Tom Fell and Joe Clarke breathed life back into promotion-chasing Worcestershire's victory hopes with an unbroken third-wicket stand of 95 against Glamorgan on day two at New Road.

The pair joined forces at 55-2 with the home side still 62 runs in arrears after Glamorgan had extended their first innings from an overnight 118-5 to 280 all out.

Glamorgan may be left to rue dropping Fell on two - a low chance spilled by keeper Mark Wallace off Graham Wagg.

Fell went on to complete his second Championship fifty - from 101 deliveries with nine fours - since returning to the side after being given the all-clear in his battle against cancer.

Having mopped the Gloucester innings up for 367 from an overnight 332-7, Sussex closed on 326-4.

Wells made an unbeaten 102, with Chris Nash (66), Luke Wright (54) and David Wiese (38no) doing their bit.

Ned Eckersley's third consecutive first-class century saw Leicestershire take control at Wantage Road with a first-innings total of 519 before reducing Northamptonshire to 142-4 at the close on day two, trailing by 377.

Eckersley became just the third man to make three centuries in successive matches for Leicestershire, following Ben Smith in 2001 and Charles Dempster before the war.
