Somerset tie down all-rounder

Ben Phillips is committed to Somerset until the end of the 2010 season after signing a contract extension. The all-rounder, 34, missed the entire 2007 season due to injury after joining the Cidermen from Northamptonshire. He returned to action last summer, scoring 203 runs and taking 21 wickets in 10 Championship appearances as Somerset finished fourth in Division One. "I am obviously very pleased as this extension means that my future is now pledged to Somerset," Phillips told the county's official website. "I was frustrated in my first year with injury and last year I was in and out of the side, but I'm looking forward to being a regular member of the team in 2009 and helping the side win some trophies."
