James Hildreth and Peter Trego led the way as Somerset piled up the runs on day two of their Specsavers County Championship Division One clash with Yorkshire at Taunton.

Hildreth (a superb 166) and Trego (94) shared a 199-run stand for the fifth wicket and Somerset were eventually able to declare on 562-7.

However, Yorkshire responded well and had reached 127-1 at stumps, opener Adam Lyth making 80 not out.

Somerset began the day on 342-4, with Hildreth 68 not out, and the former England Lions captain was soon in top gear as he reached his second hundred of the season from 168 balls.

At the other end, Trego became more aggressive as the morning wore on and hit Lyth for a huge six that landed on the top tier of the new Somerset Stand - the first batsman to achieve that feat since it was opened.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid (4-160) eventually removed the duo but Jamie Overton then chipped in with a rapid 23, including a six into the River Tone, before Somerset declared just before 2.25pm.

However, the Yorkshire reply began with a three-figure partnership between Lyth and Alex Lees until Overton made a breakthrough by having Lees (33) caught in the slips by Trego.

But Lyth remained unbeaten at the close, having faced 152 balls and hit nine fours and two sixes, and he will resume alongside Will Rhodes (6 not out) on Tuesday.

Ollie Rayner led the way for Middlesex at the Kia Oval, removing the Surrey top three as the visitors took charge on day two of their clash.

Replying to Middlesex's 395, Surrey had reached 40-0 when Burns (19) was caught off a leading edge, and off-spinner Rayner (3-44) then trapped Arun Harinath (20) lbw with his arm ball four deliveries later.

And Rayner then claimed the biggest scalp of all as Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara, whose previous eight Championship innings had produced 531 runs, fell for just 14, Tim Murtagh taking an excellent low catch at cover.

Murtagh (1-17 from 12 overs) then had Steven Davies (10) caught by Paul Stirling, before Jason Roy (47) led a Surrey revival.

However, Dawid Malan came on to bowl his leg spinners and had Roy caught by Sam Robson at short leg with his second ball, before Toby Roland-Jones (1-19 from 16 overs) returned to remove James Burke (1) lbw late in the day.

Surrey closed on 134-6, still well short of the 246 needed to avoid the follow-on, and much will depend on wicket-keeper Ben Foakes, who has batted nearly two hours for his unbeaten 22.

Middlesex had begun the day on 298-7 and last-wicket pair Roland-Jones (44 not out) and Murtagh (24) ensured it was a frustrating morning for Surrey with a stand of 68, Tom Curran finishing with 4-113 for the hosts.

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND - MAY 03: Michael Lumb of Nottinghamshire scores four runs during the Specsavers County Championship division one match between Nottin

At Trent Bridge, Michael Lumb hit the 20th first class century of his career and his first since September 2013, as Nottinghamshire edged towards first innings parity against Warwickshire.

The visitors added just a single to their overnight total of 372-9 when play resumed and Nottinghamshire then reached stumps on 316-7.

The 36-year-old Lumb was the mainstay of their innings, racing to a 48-ball half-century before getting somewhat bogged down and taking an hour to get from 72 to 74.

But he still reached his 100 from 156 balls, with 19 boundaries, before he was sixth out for 108 when the spin of Jeetan Patel found his outside edge.

Steven Mullaney made 56, adding 98 for the second wicket with Lumb, while Brett Hutton will resume on 35 not out, after steering Notts through to the end of the day.

Keith Barker (2-57), Rikki Clarke (also 2-57) and Chris Woakes (2-89) each picked up two wickets as Warwickshire produced a disciplined display with the ball.

At Chester-le-Street, teenage Lancashire opener Haseeb Hameed (74) shared a third-wicket stand of 104 with Alviro Petersen (61) as the visitors reached 205-4 at stumps in reply to Durham's 411.

The hosts had resumed on 341-6 and soon lost James Weighell, Tom Bailey (5-110) completing his first five-wicket haul in Division One.

And former England man Paul Collingwood resumed on 85 but failed to reach three figures, slicing a drive to gully off Kyle Jarvis (3-86) when he had reached 97.

However, Barry McCarthy (37) and Graham Onions (14 not out) put together a last-wicket stand of 36 before McCarthy hoisted a catch to long-on in Simon Kerrigan's first over of the day.

Lancashire then slipped to 21-2 as Karl Brown (9) and Luke Procter (1) fell to Weighell (2-32) but the 19-year-old Hameed helped save the day, missing dogged defence with wristy strokeplay in his 181-ball knock.

He shared in crucial stands with Petersen (third man out, lbw to Onions, after dominating a stand with Hameed) and Steven Croft, who helped add 77 for the fourth wicket and will resume on 31 not out.

But Hameed fell five overs from the close, bowled when he missed an attempted pull off a long-hop from Scott Borthwick.
