A Surrey spokesperson has confirmed to Sky Sports News there will be more police and stewards in place at the Oval on Tuesday when Surrey take on Yorkshire in the County Championship.

The fixture will be the first game at the Oval since a crossbow bolt was fired onto the field causing Surrey's game with Middlesex to be abandoned last month.

The crossbow bolt was fired into the stadium from outside the ground, landing on the pitch and causing a halt to proceedings.

A "controlled evacuation" was subsequently carried out by armed police at around 4.35pm on August 31, with players immediately removed from the field of play and supporters requested to take cover.

There were no injuries sustained as a result of the incident and the Met Police later said in a statement that it was "not being treated as terrorism-related."

According to Sky sources, there will now be an increased police presence in force at the Oval for the Yorkshire clash to try and stop a repeat incident.
